The so-called shot peening refers to a surface strengthening process that is widely used in industry. The device is simple, low in cost, and is not restricted by the shape and position of the workpiece, and is convenient to operate, but the working environment is poor. Shot peening is widely used to improve mechanical strength and wear resistance, fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance of parts. It can also be used for surface matting, descaling and eliminating residual stresses on cast, forged and welded parts.

The difference between shot peening and shot blasting

The blasting process uses high-pressure air or compressed air as the power, while the shot blasting generally throws the steel sand at a high speed by a high-speed rotating flywheel. Shot blasting efficiency is high, but there will be dead ends, and shot peening is more flexible, but power consumption is large.

Although the two processes have different injection dynamics and methods, they are all aimed at high-speed impact on the workpiece. The effect is basically the same. In comparison, the shot peening is finer and easier to control, but the efficiency is not as high as that of shot blasting. The small workpiece, the shot blasting is more economical and practical, easy to control the efficiency and cost, can control the particle size of the pellet to control the jetting effect, but there will be a dead angle, suitable for batch processing of a single workpiece.

The choice of the two processes depends mainly on the shape and processing efficiency of the workpiece.

The difference between shot peening and sand blasting

Both shot peening and sand blasting use high-pressure air or compressed air as the power, and blow it out at high speed to impact the surface of the workpiece to achieve the cleaning effect, but the selected medium is different and the effect is different.

The difference between sand blasting and shot peening

After the blasting treatment, the dirt on the surface of the workpiece is removed, the surface of the workpiece is slightly damaged, and the surface area is greatly increased, thereby increasing the bonding strength between the workpiece and the coating/coating layer.

The surface of the workpiece after sandblasting is metallic, but since the surface is rough, the light is refracted, so there is no metallic luster and it is a dark surface.

After the shot peening, the dirt on the surface of the workpiece is removed, the surface of the workpiece is not damaged, and the surface area is increased. Since the surface of the workpiece is not destroyed during the machining process, the excess energy generated during the machining will lead to the surface strengthening of the workpiece base.

The surface of the blasting sandblasting process is also metallic, but since the surface is spherical, the light is partially refracted, so the workpiece is processed to a matt effect.
